Posted 07/05/2005 The following is an official release from Clayton State University:
The Atlanta Air Cargo Association Drops $25,000 Load On The University Morrow, Ga. June 24, 2005- The Atlanta Air Cargo Association (AACA) has just completed endowing a $25,000 scholarship, which will be available in the 2005, fall semester, for Clayton State University students specifically seeking a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in logistics, transportation, and supply chain management. Being fully endowed, the scholarship uses interest gains on the $25,000 to provide for one student per semester, which, more than likely, will generate enough money to cover general tuition. In addition, because the scholarship uses only interest gains on the $25,000, the AACA's contribution is designed to perpetually aid one student per semester indefinitely. Criteria for the scholarship require that its CSU recipient be seeking a business administration degree with a concentration in logistics, transportation, and supply chain management; however, according to CSU's Director of Development, Reda Rowell, some items concerning eligibility are still being developed. Formed in 1969, the AACA was founded by a conglomeration of Atlanta air cargo companies. According to their mission statement, the association has an obligation "to establish educational programs and activities in order to encourage the professional development of members in air cargo transportation and allied fields of commerce." In light of the preceding objective, the AACA makes their mission a reality through their contribution to CSU. The association has been making annual contributions to the scholarship fund since 1999; it reached full endowment in November, 2004. They are charter member of CSU's Bent Tree Society. Dr. George Messer, who has been at the University since 2001 and presides as an eminent scholar in the school of Business' area of logistics and supply chain management, notes that the AACA "has been named as the outstanding chapter in air cargo in the United States." Messer commends the association for their contribution to the University and recognizes it as a response "to a need in the area of logistics" in light of the University's proximity to the airport. According to Messer, the school of Business forecasts a minimum of 30 students per year participating in a concentrated study of at least three logistical and supply chain management courses; the scholarship would be a tremendous aide for the preceding students not only financially but also, according to Messer, as a special "recognition that would help their employment opportunities." CSU extends special thanks to all AACA members and donors who participated with the scholarship. In addition, the University would also like to recognize former AACA President and Education Committee member, Rachael Worley, who played a large part in making the scholarship a reality.
