As you know, it described the upcoming vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act for FY 2007. It was an immediate call for legislative action to contact your Representative regarding possible amendments to this bill. Late on Monday, May 22nd, the House Appropriations Committee reported H.R. 5441 - Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act for FY 2007 to the House for action. This bill is now scheduled to be voted on by the entire House of Representatives tomorrow May 25th. Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) has "filed" two amendments mandating increased scanning and inspection of maritime and air cargo. Because there is a good chance Rep. Markey and his allies may succeed in having these amendments adopted, we urgently need your help in speaking up for our industry! Please contact your Representatives (click here for contact list) and tell them to: ·
AAEI members need to educate members of the House of Representatives about how these amendments will impact your business by: ·
To assist your efforts, we have attached a target lobbying list, which is based on previous votes to a similar amendment that Rep. Markey offered in 2003 and 2004. Since Democrats seem to be united in support of these amendments, the target lobbying list contains only the names of Republicans members who may have interest in supporting Rep. Markey's amendments. Please urge them to oppose! Please contact AAEI's Government Affairs Manager, Brendan Gibbons (x102) or me (x103) at 202-857-8009 for information about contacting your Representative. Finally, we ask that you provide AAEI headquarters with the results of your efforts. Thanks in advance for answering AAEI's call to legislative action and we will keep you apprised of our progress. Sincerely, Hallock Northcott PS: Please feel free to share this with any of your industry friends and colleagues you think can help with our outreach efforts. |
